Off Street Parking Charges In Runnymede

Wednesday, 29 November 2017 17:46

After six years of continuous increases it has been announced that off-street parking charges in Runnymede will remain the same in 2018/19. The decision was made on November 23rd  during RBC's annual review of parking costs. It was recommended that car parking charges did not go up in "recognition of previous increases and parking disruptions in key town centres".

Currently it costs £1 to park for an hour at car parks in town centres across the borough and 40p out of town. Explaining the reasons why charges shouldn't increase, RBC officers stated that "it is likely that redevelopment in Egham town centre will commence resulting in a loss of off-street and on-street parking. In the Chertsey town centre, we have recently seen the opening of a new supermarket, with free customer parking. Officers are concerned that increasing charging may have an adverse implication on income when such alternative parking is available. In light of these significant changes in our town centres it is not considered appropriate to amend parking charges for the 2018/19 year."

A spokesman for RBC confirmed in a statement: "It was resolved that off-street parking charges remain the same in 2018/19." The council makes a gross income of £726,429 from car parks, which,

according to RBC, is used to "support other council services".
